    The literal translation may go like this:

    Ocean, broadly as it is, can hold everything;
    Lotus, white as snow, does not have any impurity.

    The meaning:

    We should tolerate and accept differences just like the ocean, which accepts all rivers.
    We should have our own moral standard and principle, just like Lotus being so pure and white out of its muddy environment.
